The CHI Brass Floyd Cooley 3 Heavyweight Tuba Mouthpiece combines the responsive, efficient playing characteristics of the Floyd Cooley 3 with the added stability, tonal density, and projection of a heavyweight exterior.
Developed from one of Floyd Cooley’s favorite mouthpieces, the FC3 combines the cup concept of that mouthpiece with Floyd’s distinctive rim design and a modern CHI Brass backbore. The result is an exceptionally efficient mouthpiece that provides clarity, flexibility, and a beautiful, focused sound.
The Heavyweight version adds additional exterior mass to create a more substantial tonal core, increased stability at louder dynamics, and enhanced projection. It retains the quick response and musical flexibility of the original FC3 while offering players a denser, more powerful sound.
Its combination of efficiency and tonal focus makes the FC3 Heavyweight particularly well suited to large piston F tubas and EEb tubas. It can also be an excellent choice on CC tuba when a player wants a more compact, focused, soloistic sound.
